Who We Are
Summit Church is made up of a friendly group of people from diverse backgrounds - some older, some younger and many in-between - who have come together to worship and to serve Jesus Christ.
At Summit Church, our desire is to have lively, contemporary worship, practical and easy-to-understand Biblical teachings, and a place where every believer can use their gifts and talents to serve the Lord. From the time you walk through our front door, you will quickly notice that we are a group of warm and friendly people who will welcome you and try our best to make you feel comfortable.
Summit Church is also a place where we desire that everyone who comes to our services has a life-changing encounter with the Lord - their own Summit Experience, if you will.
We are a group of believers who are serious about the Lord's directive to take the Good News of Jesus Christ and His love to the world around us. We are dedicated to serving one another, our community and the nations in love and to taking the same life-changing encounter each of us has experienced to the world around us.
Summit Church is made up of real people who have experienced God's real love and mercy! Come and visit us and have your own Summit Experience with the Lord!
Our History
Summit Church began in Elkins, WV in 1991 in the living room of one of its founding members with about 18 people. It was initially founded as Sound of Triumph Ministries.
The original purpose for the Church being founded was to have a faith-filled, Holy Spirit-filled environment for people from all backgrounds to have a place to join together to worship the Lord. The church moved to its present location on 302 Goff Street the same year.
In February, 2009 the church decided to change its name to Summit Church to more accurately reflect the vision the Lord had given our new pastors, Hal and Lisa Boehm.
What to Expect
When you show up at the Summit, we want you to feel comfortable. Don't worry about dressing to impress; you'll see some with jeans, some with jackets, some in high heels, and some in flip flops. Our main goal is to be able to grow together as real people, each of us moving one step closer to the person God wants us to be. Expect contemporary music, practical teachings, and a family of people who can't wait to meet you. See you at the Summit?

Lisa Boehm - Lead/Children's Pastor
Lisa was raised in Greeneville, TN, and is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and was an elementary teacher in the public school system for thirteen years. She also started Trojans for Christ at Jenks South East Elementary and led it during its first three years. While Hal was in seminary, Lisa was the chaplain for Theology Wives for two years.

They also travel to nations such as Cuba, Mexico, Burma, Malaysia, Egypt and Nepal to conduct evangelistic crusades and to train national pastors to reach their own nation!
Five Questions with Lisa
Ben-Hur, Facing the Giants, Remember the Titans.
Anything worship. Kari Jobe, Chris Tomlin, Laura Story, Rita Springer ...
Traveling, sight-seeing ... who has time for anything else?
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." - Matthew 5:8. I've loved this Scripture since I was a little girl!

Jeremiah Wentz - Associate Pastor
Jeremiah and his wife Becky have been serving at Summit Church for almost four years in various capacities. They have two kids; Isaiah Cole (born January, 2007) and Malachi Jacob (born January, 2009).
Jeremiah was raised just outside Baltimore and went to college at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, graduating with a degree in Communications. He spent four years working for a multi-media marketing company, working remotely from Tulsa, OK, Harrisonburg, VA, and Elkins, WV, before serving as the E-Commerce and Sales Manager at Mountain State Auto Auction in Shinnston, WV.
Jeremiah came on staff officially in July, 2009. At Summit, Jeremiah preaches the Sunday Night services, teaches Sunday School, heads up the multi-media, plays guitar, and preaches whenever Hal or Lisa need a break.
In his spare time, Jeremiah runs 924design , a website and graphics design company.
Five Questions with Jeremiah
Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank Redemption, Life is Beautiful, Harvey, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Memento, Dark Knight ... just to name a few.
Oh, man. I'm all over the place ... Ray LaMontagne, Hillsong United, Over the Rhine, Derek Webb, Andrew Osenga, Rick Astley, Paolo Nutini, SafetySuit, Kari Jobe, Damien Rice, Jay McGuirk, David Gray, and just about any '90s grunge. But really, nothing beats good worship music.
Spare time? What's that? I love spending time with Becky, Isaiah and Malachi, especially if we're watching the Ravens or the Terps play (huge sports fan). Reading, playing games, and eating.
1 Corinthians 9:24: "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize."
The youth pastors are kind of weird, but everybody else is awesome.

Randy Ellis - Youth Pastor
Originally born in Logan, WV, Randy moved to Charleston when he was a kid due to his dads job in the coal mines. He attended Living Faith Church in Marmet, WV, where he was very active as a volunteer youth leader. Hes been to Peru and Prague with Catchfire Ministries.
Shortly after his trip to Prague, Randy felt that God was calling him to receive more training and equipping in the Bible. He packed up and moved to Tulsa, OK, to attend Victory Bible Institute for Practical Ministry. While attending VBI, Randy was involved in Straight Talk for Men, a mens discipleship ministry, as a small group leader and a teacher. He also volunteered with Victory by Virtue for Teens, a discipleship ministry where he was also a small group leader and teacher.
Before moving to Elkins in August of this year, Randy and Renee had started a teen Bible study at their home as well as volunteering at a youth group in Coweta, OK. Since 2006, Randy has been Lead Designer and Business Development Manager for Wallace Pools and Spas, based in Tulsa, designing over 100 pools. He currently works remotely for the company so that he and Renee can focus on being the new youth pastors.
Randy has a heart for teenagers, an enthusiastic and warm personality, an ability to immediately connect with young and old alike, and a gift of communicating Gods truth in a way that makes it easy to apply in todays complex society.
Five Questions with Randy
Transformers, Star Trek, Matrix, Lord of the Rings, August Rush, The Green Mile ... just to name a few.
Wow, this is a tough one Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, Disciple, FM Static, Project 86, The Fray, Matt Kearney, Paul Wright, Lecrae, Toby Mac, Hillsong United, Desperation Band, Gateway Worship, Kari Jobe and the list goes on and on.

Galatians 2:20. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
We are just a church who loves God, and loves people for who they are!

Renee Ellis - Youth Pastor
Renee was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia. She received her degree in Biology at WV State College. Renee uses her degree and works in the natural resources arena while going to different nations on short-term mission trips during her vacations.
During one of these missions trips God spoke to Renee's heart to go and be trained up at Victory Bible Institute in Tulsa, OK. Renee graduated from Victory Bible Institute's Practical Ministry program in May of 2006. She was the director of Victory Christian Center's Teen Discipleship group, Virtue for Teens, for two years.
Randy and Renee were married in August of 2007 and while in Tulsa they started their own teen discipleship group, 4-Twelve (1 Timothy 4:12). They love teenagers and have a heart to see them mature in their relationship with Christ. Renee didnt have a strong youth group when she was a teen, so she views this outreach to teens as a way to give them what she never had. Renee has served in childrens ministry for two years and in youth ministry for 10 years.
Five Questions with Renee
1. Favorite Movies?
This is hard.... I'll give it a try: Sweet Home Alabama, August Rush, Lion King, Remember the Titans, Hitch, Marlie & Me, and The Green Mile.
I've got lots of stuff I like ... Kari Jobe (Favorite!), Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, Stellar Kart, Barlow Girl, Paul Wright, Toby Mac, Hillsong United, Desperation Band, Gateway Worship ... the list goes on!
I love nature, so hiking, mountain biking, 4- wheelin', fishing, boating, riding horses, snowboarding (although I've only been once!), camping, playing with my puppy (well...if you can call a 120lb. dog a puppy). And of course, anything with my hubby Randy is always #1 on my list!
Romans 8:28. "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them."
We like to drink coffee during our services!

Vertical Youth
Vertical Youth is a ministry at Summit Church designed for teenagers from middle-school to high school age. Our vision for the youth of this generation is Raise Up, Reach Out! Raise Up means that we raise this generation up to learn how to know God and be complete in Him. Reaching Out incorporates serving our local community as well as other nations on short-term missionary trips.
Vertical Youth offers relevant messages that speak to the needs of this day and age. Teenagers today are bombarded by negative influences of TV, movies, music, and even friends. We bring the positive message of hope and love through Jesus Christ. Teens are taught about their worth in Gods eyes and that they have a divine purpose for which the Creator has called them. The goal is whole teenagers that go into their schools and become the influencers instead of the influenced.
We meet on Sunday nights up in the Loft of Summit Church from 6 to 7:30PM. We would love to see you there!
Summit Kidz
Summit Kidz is a ministry at Summit Church designed for 0-5 years of age, nursery and toddlers. Our vision at Summit Kidz is to introduce the babies to God and His Word through stories and songs.
Our vision for the toddler years is to assist in training them to know and love God more and to realize His love for them. They will do this through Bible stories, music, videos, worship songs and times of prayer.
Camp Summit
Camp Summit is a ministry designed for elementary age children, grades 1-5. Our vision at Camp Summit is to assist in training up children to know God, love God and serve God. The children come to know God through learning His Word and hearing His voice. They come to love God through prayer, praise and worship. They learn to serve God through finding their purpose and being obedient to Him. This is accomplished through exciting Bible lessons, Scripture memory, prayer, music, skits, games, crafts and outreach.
We are committed to see that each child knows Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior and is equipped for a lifetime of service. Both Camp Summit and Summit Kidz meet during every service: Sunday morning & evening and Wednesday nights.
Iron Men's Ministry
"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpen another."
Proverbs 27:17
Every guy wants to be respected in his community, admired in his workplace, and a leader in his home. However, every guy also struggles with things that threaten to derail those goals.
At Summit, we believe the Bible outlines pretty clear guidelines for successfully navigating those waters and avoiding those pitfalls, and it begins with fellowship.
Once a month the guys in the church get together for great food, fellowship, and faith-based teaching on how to be the best in every area of life!
It's a great chance to get to know a few other strong Christian guys, meet some new faces, and be encouraged in the Word. Make our next Iron Men's meeting part of your plans!
Women of the Word (W.O.W.)
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised!"
Proverbs 31:30
Calling all ladies! Whether you're single or married, young or old, a working mom or stay at home and take care of the house, you're invited to be a part of Summit's Women of the Word!
Our women's group meets once a month to fellowship, laugh, and explore who they are in Christ. Whether it's Biblical parenting tips, how to conduct business with integrity, or Scriptural ideas on strengthening your relationship, every get-together is packed with encouragement and inspiration!
We meet at a different house each month, so the scenery's always changing! Every meeting has different themes, so the creativity never stops! And we serve a good God, so the fun and laughter never end! Check out our Events page to find out the date of our next meeting.
Prayer
Here at Summit, we believe in the power of prayer. We believe that when God's people come together and earnestly cry out to Him, He hears and answers.
We have a dedicated team of prayer warriors who keep your prayer concerns confidential as they pray and intercede on your behalf.
If you have a prayer need, you can either fill out the form on the right or send an email directly to prayer_summitelkins.com.
